John Battle on Asbestos

John Battle MP (1987-2010) is associated with a number of pertinent political issues. As a staunch Roman Catholic, he opposed all pro-abortion measures, and was active in promoting all faiths in combating poverty. He was also vocal in the issues to do with asbestos:
Workers exposed to occupational hazards, such as black lung disease among coal miners who inhaled mine dust for many years, or asbestosis among pipe fitters and insulation workers exposed to airborne asbestos fibres, he felt, needed political representation.
But although these occupational diseases were well-known, there was little evidence 15 years ago that air pollution represented a serious health problem to the general public.
