Leeds MP Backs Bradford

John Battle, Labour MP for Leeds West, backed Bradford’s bid to be European City of Culture in 2008 - and suggested a link with Leeds.

“It would be a good opportunity to build a Leeds-Bradford tram,” said Mr Battle. “I am meeting Bradford MPs and Paul Truswell, the MP for Pudsey, to discuss a tram link connecting Bradford, Pudsey, West Leeds and joining the Leeds tram lines.

“Bradford and West Leeds have always had close ties, as historically many West Leeds people worked in Bradford.

“I personally am supporting Bradford’s City of Culture bid,” added Mr Battle. “I said recently at a meeting of Labour councillors that a successful Leeds should reach out to our neighbours and work together for regional development in the 21st Century. Being City of Culture would benefit the whole region as well as Bradford.”
