John Battle MP for Leeds West welcomed Premier
Farnell’s new scheme to support the local community through volunteering.
Joining the workforce and management of Farnell’s along with members
from local community groups John Battle said “this is a great initiative
being commissioned by Farnell’s to allow their employees to take
a part in volunteering within the local community. Each organisation has
been able to draw up their wish list of things they would like volunteers
to do and Farnell’s has set a great example for other businesses
to follow in making it possible for employees to volunteer.”
John Battle went onto say “Its important that we do all we can
to help the local community. Farnell’s is a large employer here
in Leeds West and I am delighted that they have taken the initiative to
promote this volunteering scheme for their staff – our voluntary
organisations rely on support from volunteers and by working and getting
support from your company to participate it can make all the difference
to getting people helping. The scheme will help residents from all age
groups and from all areas across Leeds West. From taking a pensioner for
a haircut to helping to the clean the canal, there will be a variety of
projects and time that can be devoted to helping others”
The scheme at Farnell’s is supporting organisations such as Armley
helping hands, the Lazer centre and the Leeds West family learning centre.
Farnell’s employees will be given a wish list of activities from
the organisations and then if they decide to choose one will be given
a designated time that they can do this.
