Hungarian Cultural Evening in Bramley

Some Of The West Leeds ScoutsJohn Battle MP for Leeds West was instrumental in organising a Hungarian Cultural Evening in Bramley in March this year. The idea came about when John Battle heard that scouts from three groups in his constituency - the 29th S.W. Leeds which meet at St Margaret's Church in Bramley, the 8th S.W, Leeds from St James' Church, Farnley and the 17th S.W. Leeds who meet at St Bartholomews' in Armley were off on a trip to Hungary.

John Battle put them in touch with the Hungarian Embassy and the Hungarian Club in Bradford, and together they planned the Hungarian Evening - members of the Club in Bradford came dressed in traditional costumes laden down with traditional Hungarian food, photo albums etc. David Bowe, Member of the European Parliament, joined John Battle at the event. Some Of The West Leeds ScoutsThe scouts leave for Hungary on Saturday 4th August, travelling overland. They have arranged to meet up with local scouts in Hungary.

The boys and their leaders have paid for the trip themselves, but have also raised funds so that they can take part in activities in Hungary. The Transport and General Workers Union have made a generous donation towards the trip, and David Bowe M.E.P. came up with tee-shirts for them all to wear on the journey across Europe. John Battle and members of the Labour Party in West Leeds have collected a coolbag full of chocolate for the scouts to give as presents for the young people in Hungary.

John Battle said "I am proud that young people in my constituency have the sense of adventure and interest in other cultures to undertake such an unusual holiday. I hope they all have an excellent holiday, and that the little bit of an insight into Hungarian culture that they gained at the event back in March will help - I know that everyone who tasted the food, particularly the cakes will be looking forward to having some more!"
