| John Battle MP welcomed the
announcement that the Government are spending an extra £18 million to
improve Council housing in West Leeds.
"This will make a real difference for thousands of Council
tenants in West Leeds - it's excellent news," said John. "It's also a
tribute to West Leeds Homes, to the dynamic leadership of Ted Hanley and
the hard work of all the staff, and I congratulate them.
"This money is available for two years starting in March
2004 and is the first instalment of extra money needed to bring all Council
homes up to national decency standards by 2010.
It was awarded following an inspection by the Audit Commission,
a Government watchdog, which was awarded two stars after careful checks
into the work of West Leeds Homes, the new Arms Length Management Organisation
- the Council landlord for west Leeds. Leeds City Council decentralised
housing management to six "ALMOs" in February 2003. |
