John Battle, Labour MP for Leeds West, welcomed new Government
funding for Children’s Centres in West Leeds announced today.
“New funding for Children’s Centres in Bramley
and Hawksworth Wood is excellent news for our youngsters and their parents,”
he said. “Leeds has done very well – with five centres out
of 60 in the first wave being funded around the country.”
The centres will provide childcare, early education, health
services, family support and help for parents looking for jobs.
“This builds on the good work that’s already
been done by Bramley Sure Strart and in Hawksworth Wood,” added
Mr Battle. “Central Government money goes in – and local
knowledge from local charities and community groups as well as Leeds
City Council helps makes sure it’s spent well. As I said recently
in the House of Commons, Sure Start in my constituency has helped build
community and bring people together, it’s supported families,
it’s helped parents who want to find work and get training, and
it’s giving our children a better start in life.”
