John
Battle opened the first event of the week long I Love West Leeds festival
last week, New Farnley Fete at the Lancasterian School Room; took part
in Interplay Radio’s radio panel, and enjoyed the all day festival
at Farnley Park on Saturday 16 July that finished the week.
“The idea for the I Love West Leeds week of events came out of
a series of workshops called West Fest which I chaired 18 months ago to
hear and discuss local people’s ideas for improving our community.
This festival brought the whole community together to celebrate what a
good place this is to live – it was a really enjoyable week with
good music, good food, a ‘poetry slam,’ and lots of really
impressive contributions from many different groups, not least the young
people. West Leeds is on the up.
“Interplay Theatre did a great job coordinating the festival and
it was such a success that I hope we can do it every year – I’ll
be calling on the Council to help with funding.”
