John Battle MP (Lab, Leeds West) has urged over-60s to apply for new
bus passes which will allow them free off-peak local bus travel throughout
England.
Currently more than half of over-60s in West Yorkshire have not applied
for the English National Concessionary Pass – which replaces the
current Metro Senior Permit. The end of October is the cut-off date for
ensuring applications are processed in time for the April 1 2008 start
date for the new scheme, and Mr Battle is worried over-60s in West Leeds
will be among those missing out.
He said: “The new scheme introduced by the Government is great
news for the over-60s, meaning they can travel for free all over the
country using local off-peak bus services. But it is vital people apply
now – or else they will not get their pass in time for next April.
“The new pass also replaces the current Senior Permit, so it’s
worth remembering that you will still need to apply for the new pass even if
you only travel on buses in West Yorkshire.”
Application forms are available from Bus Station Travel Centres and Post
Offices.
