Claiming tax credits more vital than ever, says MP

John Battle MP (Lab, Leeds West) has urged his constituents to check whether they are entitled to tax credits before changes to income tax come into force in April.

Mr Battle said: “April will see income tax cut to 20%, and there will also be the abolition of the 10% tax rate. This makes it all the more important that people in West Leeds claim the extra tax credits they are entitled to.

“Those over 65 will have any losses from the abolition of the 10% rate compensated for by an increase in their personal allowances, but people still working need to claim their tax credits to make up their income.”
