| John
joined Lord Mayor of Leeds Neil Taggart to open the newly refurbished
Hawksworth Wood Primary School on 24th June.
John said, "Hawksworth Wood Primary School embodies the vision of
what a community primary school can achieve. An excellent headteacher,
committed staff, and school governors with vision are doing more than
running a school, they're rebuilding community.
“The refurbished buildings are absolutely superb, with all
kinds of creative work going on in every classroom, and in the school
garden, but what really impresses me about the school is the spirit
of welcome.”
John enjoyed the children's presentation, particularly the enthusiastic
singing of "the Community Song" by the whole school.
The
refurbishment frees former school buildings to be a new community
centre. It will provide flexible early education and childcare,
family support and rooms for training and education - aiming to
be a community resource which can be used outside nursery hours
for a range of other projects. Park Lane College, the Primary Health
Care Trust and Social Services will all run services in the centre.
In the last few months Hawksworth Wood Primary School has won a merit
award, and an environmental education award - the Stan Kenyon Memorial
Challenge. |
