| John
Battle, MP for Leeds West, visited the British Heart Foundation
(BHF) shop in Bramley today to write a love note in support of the
charity's Real Valentine campaign which aims to raise £1million
to fund more than 30 new BHF Heart Nurses, which will help reach
up to 10,000 new patients each year.
Almost 2.7 million people live with heart disease in the UK - but many
don't have access to the support and care that they need. There are currently
180 BHF Heart Nurses, or just one to every 330,000 people in the UK. These
specialists provide vital care, reassurance, and advice to more than 50,000
patients. But these patients represent just the tip of the iceberg - there
are many thousands living with heart disease without adequate care and
support, who often feel isolated, afraid and frustrated.
To help raise the £1 million people can visit their local BHF shop
and for a suggested donation of £1 can write a romantic message
on a Love Note and stick it in their local BHF Shop window for all to
see. Cryptic romantic messages, poems and marriage proposals are all very
welcome!
Last year, nearly 200,000 Love Notes were placed in BHF Shop windows
across the UK - the top heart charity hopes to smash this record in 2005
by completely covering all their shop windows with the heart shaped notes.
John Battle said today: 'Valentines is a time to give our hearts a boost
so why not give a real boost to the BHF campaign. As well as giving to
our loved ones, a little extra to BHF now will save the hearts of others'.
