John Battle Welcomes Minimum Wage Increase

John welcomed today’s announcement by the Government that the minimum wage will rise from £4.50 to £4.85 an hour in October.

“The first Bill I brought into Parliament, back in 1988, was for a national minimum wage, and the Tories wouldn’t have it,” said the MP. “So I was very proud when the Labour Government introduced it. This latest increase is excellent news for many people in my constituency – and extending the minimum wage to 16 and 17 year olds is also very welcome.”

A minimum wage for 16 and 17 year olds will be introduced for the first time, at £3.00 an hour.

“If you think you’re not getting what’s due to you, ring the Government’s confidential Minimum Wage Hotline on 0845 6000 678, or visit the website www.tiger.gov.uk ” John added.
