John Battle MP pushes Minister on Pension Credit

John has taken up a Pension Credit problem after being approached by Age Concern Leeds.

“Age Concern Leeds made me aware of a problem faced by some pensioners who lose their Pension Credit if they go abroad for more than four weeks – with most benefits you are still entitled if you go abroad for up to 13 weeks, and I think Pension Credit should be similar,” said the MP.

“Pension Credit is there to help less well off pensioners, people who often save up to visit relatives abroad and tend to stay longer than four weeks to make the trip worthwhile,” he added.

“I have written to Andrew Smith, the Secretary of State for Work and Pensions, asking him to change the rules.”

“Over 4,500 pensioners in my Leeds West constituency now get Pension Credit, which gives extra income to all who need it and also adds a little extra for those with savings, making it more worthwhile to have put modest savings aside for retirement.”

Pension Credit can be claimed in one free phone call, to 0800 99 1234.
