MP Secures Improvements to Leeds Rail Service

John Battle, Labour MP for Leeds West, took up constituents’ complaints about the state of Bramley rail station. “People were concerned that there were no station announcements and inadequate shelters,” said Mr Battle, “and they felt ignored.

“But I took the matter up with Metro and I was delighted to hear from Cllr Mick Lyons (Metro’s chairman) that Bramley station now has a full PA system.”

“I also welcome Arriva Trains’ promise to install new shelters for passengers at Bramley before the end of the year,” added Mr Battle.

“This is good news for Bramley commuters” said Bramley Councillor Denise Atkinson (Labour).

“Improving our rail links in West Leeds is very important if we are to encourage commuters to Leeds city centre and Bradford out of their cars onto the train,” added Mr Battle. “I and local Labour councillors have been campaigning for a new station at Kirkstall Bridge and eagerly await the final plans - and we also welcome Metro’s feasibility study of extending Supertram from Leeds city centre to West Leeds and Bradford.”

Public address systems are being installed at all West Yorkshire stations currently without one. Metro and Arriva Trains are meeting the cost jointly.

Arriva Trains are paying the whole cost of the new shelters.
